Fujitsu Shock Sensor Utility
In the event your hard disk drive experiences excessive vibration or shock, there is a possibility that the read-write head will come in contact with the rotating platter, resulting in a "head crash." If this happens, data loss may occur. The Fujitsu Shock Sensor utility is a sophisticated hard disk drive protection system designed to minimize the likelihood of such an event.

Inside select Fujitsu notebooks and Tablet PCs there is an accelerometer that constantly senses for sudden movement, including free falls, excessive vibration, or impacts. Fujitsu Shock Sensor monitors movement from three axes: front-to-back, side-to-side, and up-and-down. The sensitivity can be adjusted by the user to accommodate different working environments.

If a sudden movement is detected, the read-write head is quickly retracted to a safe zone, reducing the possibility of a head crash and the potential loss of data. This technology reduces the risk of your hard drive being damaged and your data being lost forever.

Intel® Wireless Wi-Fi Link 5300 / 5100
A new IEEE 802.11n Wi-Fi solution from Intel, the Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5300 /5100 utilizes full MIMO (Multiple Input/Multiple Output) support with multiple antennas. The use of multiple antennas greatly increases the strength and range of WiFi. For superior reception and throughput select the 5300. It provided up to 450Mpbs throughput.

The WiFi Link 5100 provides throughput up to 300Mbps Rx and 150Mbps Tx.

Bluetooth Wireless
The integrated Bluetooth feature provides wireless connectivity for wireless devices at close proximity. For example, Bluetooth can be used to wirelessly transfer/ synchronize data to and from different devices such as PDAs and cellular phones. It also communicates with peripherals such as mice, keyboards, and printers wirelessly, minimizing the constraints and clutter of cables. The typical transfer distance for a Bluetooth device is up to 30 feet. Designed to take advantage of a typical workspace or PAN (Personal Area Network), the purpose of Bluetooth is to simplify the exchange of information and interfacing of devices within a close proximity. When considering Bluetooth devices keep in mind that the system as well as the individual devices must support Bluetooth.

USB 2.0
This technology lets you easily connect your notebook to digital peripherals. This version is 40 times faster than its predecessor version USB 1.1, and is downward compatible. USB 1.1 is appropriate for devices such as keyboards and joysticks, but if you have data-intensive devices such as external hard drives or external optical drives, USB 2.0 is the preferred interface.

Wireless USB (also called UWB)
This features allows wireless communication with other wireless USB devices. It is based on a short range, high bandwidth RF communication protocol that is capable of sending 480 Mbps at distances up to 3 meters (approximately 10 feet) and 110 Mbps at up to 10 meters (approximately 33 feet).

Pre-Boot Authentication (PBA)
Pre-boot Authentication (PBA) allows you to log in prior to Windows' own authentication, before the system boots up. A PBA environment serves as an extension of the BIOS or boot firmware and allows for a more secure environment external to the operating system (OS). It�s one more layer of security to protect your valuable data. With PBA, you can reduce the risk of malicious attackers gaining access to your data by not loading the OS until the user is authenticated. This hinders the use of tools that hackers use to try to bypass the OS.

Trusted Platform Module (TPM)
The embedded TPM 1.2 protects digital identification and data, and authenticates you into your network. It also allows users to securely store private keys and certificates for file and folder encryption, Web, email, digital signature and passwords.

TPM solutions can play a strong role in assuring compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to protect medical records, as well as Graham-Leech-Bliley, Sarbanes-Oxley, and other regulations that impose privacy and security requirements.

Biometric Security
The optional biometric fingerprint sensor along with OmniPass software from Softex Inc., allows user authentication and password management for all Web sites and system log-ins.
Note: Fingerprint reader/sensor is located on the display of the Tablet PC, allowing users to access this feature when in tablet mode.

OmniPass software enables you to manage your passwords with an easy to use Windows-based application. With OmniPass, a user can "replace" all other passwords with one master password or his/her fingerprint. The first time a password-secured website or application is used, the user simply enters the original password and then tells OmniPass to "remember that password". From that point forward, any time that website or application is used, OmniPass will prompt the user to swipe the finger or enter the user's master password and access to that site or application is automatically granted.

Dedicated Smart Card
The LifeBook® Tablet PC features a dedicated Smart Card slot, allowing users to store passwords and other confidential information on a small plastic card. Smart Cards are extremely convenient and are widely used in employee badges in large enterprises and in government especially the Department of Defense. They can also be used in conjunction with TPM and the biometric fingerprint sensor for multi-factor user authentication.

Portshutter®
Highly mobile devices such as ultraportable notebooks and Tablet PCs present one of the most serious and often overlooked security threats to enterprises and the government. Quite often they contain customer information, account numbers, and other sensitive information. The need to keep this information safe and secure is imperative.

One way that the data can be jeopardized is through memory media. For example, according to recent published reports, American journalists discovered Afghans near a U.S. air base were selling computer equipment stolen from the American military. This equipment included USB memory sticks with extremely sensitive information.

This is known as "data leakage" – and it can happen in companies and government agencies, both large and small. The proliferation of portable USB drives, flash memory cards, and writeable CDs and DVDs poses a challenge to enforcing security policies. Often, companies tell their staffs not to use such devices, but rarely do anything to enforce it.

Portshutter is an application that solves this problem. Once installed on a mobile PC, Portshutter allows individual users to set policies that will restrict which ports are available to the end user (USB port, optical drive).

With Portshutter, you can:

  • Specify which -- if any -- USB devices can be used
  • Prevent confidential information from being copied to removable devices
  • Prevent the connection of external devices, through which illicit or harmful programs might be installed or confidential or personal information might be accessed
  • Temporarily restrict the use of ports when the computer is left unattended

Computrace BIOS-enabled models
Integrated Computrace® BIOS tracking agent from Absolute Software embedded in the BIOS firmware is designed to provide innovative theft recovery solutions with optional Computrace software. Employing Computrace software solutions allows organizations to efficiently monitor system use, recover stolen or missing machines, and remotely delete data, if necessary. Computrace software solutions also provide the added value of proactively enforcing computer data security policies across the entire organization, increasing both end-user and administrator productivity.

Intel® IEEE 1394
IEEE 1394 (4-pin type) allows you to download digital files, such as digital video and images, to the computer at up to 400 Mbits per second. Truly plug-n-play and hot swappable, it is a much faster interface than CardBus or parallel port.
