Wireless LAN Installation for the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex

RHO Wireless will install your wireless network, test and verify its operation. The installation will be documented for future reference. The first step of the installation is the site survey.

Site Survey

A wireless site survey is a physical survey of the premises to verify the best possible locations to install access points and bridges to ensure 100% wireless coverage. When considering the use of wireless equipment, it is extremely difficult to predict the propagation of radio waves and detect the presence of interfering signals. Walls, doors, elevator shafts, trees, and other obstacles offer varying degrees of attenuation, which cause the radio frequency (RF) radiation pattern to be irregular and unpredictable. As a result, a wireless site survey is performed to understand the behavior of radio waves at the installation site. The goal of the site survey is to gather enough information and data to verify the number and placement of access points and bridges that will provide the coverage required. Coverage required usually means the support of a minimum data rate in a given area. A site Survey will also detect the presence of radio interference coming from other sources that could degrade the performance of the wireless LAN. The need and complexity of a site survey will vary depending on the size and make-up of the installation site.  RHO Wireless will perform a preliminary site survey to aide in the development of a customer's estimate or quotation.

Installation

The installation phase is the most physically demanding phase of the project and includes a more rigorous site survey to ensure that the selected Wireless LAN hardware will provide the desired coverage and bandwidth to the Wireless LAN users. The installation is normally a smooth process. The access points, antennas, and/or bridges are installed at the installation site using the marked up drawing produced during the preliminary site survey and verified during the survey at the beginning of the installation phase.

  • Activities that will take place during the installation include:
  • Preliminary configuration of access points, bridges, routers and switches
  • Connection of the router and/or switches to the broadband backbone (DSL, Cable, T-1, T-3, or DCS-3), and verification of operation
  • Preliminary mounting and connection of access points, antennas and/or bridges for the site survey
  • Site Survey - Verification of coverage and access point/bridge placement
  • Final mounting and connection of access points, antennas and/or bridges for the site survey
  • Mounting of power injectors, if required
  • Final configuration of access points and hardware
  • Wireless LAN operational demonstration and verification with the customer

After completing the installation, testing for proper operation and coverage in all frequency bands (for example: 802.11b, 802.11g, and/or 802.11a,). Finally, documentation, warranty information, and Wireless LAN operation settings and passwords for the installed system hardware and software will be provided.
